Webinars

Dear Partners -

Break Free Alliance will be hosting its own four-part summer webinar series to discuss and encourage dialogue among partners working to address tobacco use among correctional and post-correctional populations.

The latest information on how to implement tobacco cessation programming and comprehensive tobacco control policies in correctional facilities will be shared, as well as linking newly released inmates with community-based cessation resources.

Background Information

Tobacco use prevalence is particularly high among those in correctional facilities. Smoking rates among the incarcerated have been estimated to be as high as 70% - well above the 20% rate for all U.S. adults. In 2003, Break Free Alliance formed a partnership with the National Commission on Correctional Health Care to develop a tobacco cessation curriculum for correctional populations and has been working closely with correctional health care partners and others on tobacco-related issues in the correctional setting ever since.

The purpose of the 2011 Summer Webinar Series is to expand on our most recent publication, “Recommendations for Addressing Tobacco Use in Correctional Facilities through Policy and Cessation Programming,” by promoting continued discussion of the briefing paper’s recommendations and encouraging dialogue among partners working to address tobacco use among correctional and post-correctional populations.
